Introduction
The testing of metal materials, metal products and manufacturing processes constitutes one of IMK’s basic key services. Testing is largely carried out by the Laboratory for metal structures (OE LKK), which employs specialised personnel and all essential equipment required to perform mechanical (destructive), non-destructive, metallographic investigations and loading tests. The laboratory works largely in collaboration with business partners working in the civil engineering, metallurgy, energy and petrochemicals.
Laboratory services perform the following tests and investigations, grouped as:
- mechanical testing and loading test,
- non-destructive testing (NDT),
- metallographic investigation,
- corrosion and abrasion tests.
Certificates and Accreditation
Under the frame of the IMK quality management system, the laboratory is certified according to ISO 9001. In addition the laboratory is also accredited according to the SIST EN ISO/IEC 17025 (General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories).

Mechanical testing
Introduction
Mechanical testing is used to determine the mechanical properties of materials, products and structures. In mechanical tests test specimens are usually destroyed, while in other investigations …
Non-destructive testing
Introduction
Non-destructive testing (NDT or NDE) is mainly used to detect faults in the parent materials, welds, castings or other steel products. IMK carries out the essential part of the NDT in the …
Metallography
Introduction
IMK performs the following metallography examinations:
microstructural analysis of the material on the basis of metallographic replicas (non-destructive determination of damage to vital …
Corrosion testing
Corrosion testing includes the following types of corrosion:
General corrosion:
atmospheric corrosion,
galvanic corrosion,
corrosion in the molten salts,
high-temperature corrosion.
Local …
