Introduction
Based on long-term coordination the EN 1090-1 harmonized standard was published in OJ, the use of which has become mandatory from 7.1.2014. The aim of EN 1090-1 and standards with EN 1090-2 and EN 1090-3 technical requirements is to better regulate the execution of steel and aluminium structures.
IMK’s role in implementing the EN 1090-1 and EN 1090-2 standards in Slovenia
Once IMK determined that standards in the Slovenian language were crucial for their successful implementation in practice, IMK translated these standards into Slovenian. IMK also organizes seminars for potential users of these standards.

- EN 1090-1 “Execution of steel structures and aluminium structures – Part 1: Requirements for conformity assessment of structural components”
supplemented by the following product standards:
- EN 1090-2: Execution of steel and aluminium structures – Part 2: Technical requirements for steel structures
- EN 1090-3: Execution of steel and aluminium structures – Part 3: Technical requirements for aluminium structures.
Once a manufacturer’s production control system (documented system, appropriate evidence, performed initial type tests and tests necessary for monitoring of production) is judged as meeting requirements the IMK issues an FPC certificate in accordance with the Construction Products Regulation (CPR). The certificate authorises the manufacturer to issue a Declaration of Performance (DoP), and to affix the CE mark on its products.
Requirements for welding
Requirements for welding are determined by the Execution classes. The relationship between Execution classes according to EN 1090-2 and quality requirements for fusion welding EN ISO 3834 standards series is:
EN 1090-1 | EXC 1 | EXC | EXC 3 | EXC 4 |
---|---|---|---|---|
EN ISO 3834 | 4. del | 3. del | 2. del | 2. del |
Requirements | basic | standard | comprehensive | comprehensive |
